Autobiography

A real life story of who I am and how I got here.

You see my articles posted everywhere and you'll read them and get a sense of who I am, but you never really know the story behind the author. I thought it'd be cool for this week's article to tell you a little about me, instead of the normal post about something I've been thinking.

So I grew up in a little town called Annville in Pennsylvania, very close to the famous Hershey, PA (and no, it doesn't smell like chocolate). I was raised on a small ranch with horses, goats, and lots of cats. I even had a mini pig in my room for a few months (BAD IDEA!!). I wasn't too fond of the horses after being bucked off my miniature, one-eyed horse a few times and getting kicked in the shoulder by another. I grew to like it but it just wasn't something I'd ever consider keeping up with.

My dad's name is Bruce and he's a manager for AAA. He was the one who was into horses, which is why we had them. He would take his horse, Flash, to Civil War reenactments and sometimes I'd tag along. My mom was never really into it because you'd have to rough it, and that just wasn't her style of living. She'd definitely choose a hotel over a tent any day. Her name is Kim and she works at an accounting firm. We like to joke that I got my looks from my mom and my brains from my dad.

My family is really close, especially since I'm the only child. We only live about 25 minutes from my grandparents and visit them fairly often. I also come from a very religious family so we all try to go to church every Sunday.

Growing up, I was always involved in sports. I've probably tried every sport you could imagine. I'm one of those people that just has got to do the thing in question, or have it, or experience it, or else I'll complain until it happens. Not that I'm spoiled rotten, but I've definitely been spoiled. My parents have always found a way to make things happen for me, even if they didn't necessarily have the funds to do it. They've worked so hard to set me up for a good life and I'm so thankful for that.

I ended up going to Arcadia University for Sport Management, with a minor in Communications. I played basketball for Arcadia and met some of my forever friends at school. I've never really had true friends until I met some of these girls. I've made the decision to transfer for various reasons, and I will now be attending Bryn Athyn for the same major. God willing, I hope this change has a positive impact on my life and will set me up for success in the future.

God has been good with giving me opportunities and adventures, like getting to visit Costa Rica, Italy, and Puerto Rico. I've been so blessed so far and I'm only optimistic about what's to come in my future, especially with this change in schools.

I write to try and inspire you all to live through Christ and I hope that this post does the same. Not every path you take in life will lead you to where you thought, but you're on that path for one reason or another, and God always pulls through.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
