During the first full week of April, crowds from all around the WORLD gather in Augusta, Georgia to watch pro-golfers compete for the ultimate Green Jacket. Now, don't get me wrong, it's glorious, but after you have grown up around it your whole life, you're just kind of over it.
However, here are my good things that come with it and “bad" things.
1. Love: a week off from school
They literally plan the local school's spring break around the event.
2. Hate: massive amounts of people
You have no choice other than to leave town for a week because there are so many people in all surrounding towns.
3. Love: the amount of business all the people bring
Coming from a small business family, you may hate the number of people in town, but you can't help but love the amount of money they all bring.
4. Hate: everyone forgets how to drive
Everyone in the south already has no idea how to drive but throw in an extra hundred thousand people and everyone loses their minds!
5. Love: being able to appreciate the sport of golf
Since you live so close to the golf capital of the world, you no choice but to love golf.
6. Hate: everyone starts acting like they love golf
During Masters week, all different kinds of people who have never mentioned a word about golf are suddenly professional commentators are all techniques involving the sport.
7. Love: THE TIPS!
I know people that decided to caddy during Masters week and their entire college tuition was practically paid for by the end of the week in tips alone!!
8. Hate: noise from airports
I lived by one of the local airports in town and the only time it ever got activity was during Masters week with all the private planes coming in day and night!
9. Love: all the special parties
All the best parties and get-togethers were during Masters week! It was kind of like our own little southern Hamptons weekend!
10. Hate: how expensive the tickets are
Getting tickets to the Masters is practically unheard of if you're a local!
Even though there are many things to love and hate about Masters week, I wouldn't change living through it for the world!
