Everyone knows Augusta, Georgia as the place where the Master’s Tournament is played every year in April. But there is more to Augusta then just a major golf tournament. As a resident of Augusta, Georgia, we offer a multitude of events throughout the year. From having the No. 1 hospital research facility in the world as well as The Masters, Augusta is the place to be. What started from a very small town in Georgia is now one of the largest cities in Georgia.

Most of the older generation know of this person, but us new generation most likely do not know of this man. One of his most famous songs is “I Got You (I Feel Good).” His name is James Joseph Brown or as some call him, the “Godfather of Soul.” Even though he was born in South Carolina, he was raised in the town of Augusta, Georgia. He has done so much for the Augusta community, even after his passing. Every November, his family still continues the annual turkey giveaway to local families who are in need of food for thanksgiving. Every December, they hold the annual toy giveaway, which gives toys to kids whose parents cannot afford anything for their children on Christmas. We also have an arena named after him called the James Brown Arena. Lots of famous singers, comedians, circuses like Barnum and Bailey, and ice shows like Disney on Ice perform at this arena. There is something to see there almost every weekend. After his death, they built a statue of him in honor of the many things he did for Augusta, which people visit in downtown Augusta on Board Street.

Another famous place that you should visit when you come to Augusta is the Lady Antebellum Pavilion located in Evans, Georgia. The name for this pavilion comes from the country group, Lady Antebellum. One of the singers, Dave Haywood, is originally from Augusta, Georgia. The pavilion is commonly used for concerts and other functions. There is a park, and many organizations hold their events here as well.

Another reason Augusta is the place to be is because of Master’s Tournament. Every year during the first week of April, Augusta holds one of the largest golf tournaments in the world. Famous patrons from around the world come here to see which professional golfer will win the famous green jacket and will go down in history. The Master’s brings a lot to the Augusta area. From dining to shopping, this event is the number one thing to be at when it comes to Augusta.

So, as you have read, these are some of the cool events or sites that Augusta, Georgia has to offer. I hope that one day you plan a trip and come see our beautiful city. It's a tradition like no other.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
