With the recent mic drop that Drake made by expressing his love for Rihanna at the VMA’s and information released earlier this week about Rihanna and Drake not wanting to be photographed together while out, it seems like the dynamic duo dubbed #AubRih, is keeping people on their toes on whether they are truly dating or not.
Since Rihanna’s early days of red hair in her 2010 “Loud” album, the pair have always given off the vibe that there is something more there than just friendship, but it was never actually confirmed and still hasn't been.
Regardless, people everywhere have claimed that the duo just go together, and even celebrities have expressed that the pair should hook up.
Ellen DeGeneres, for one, has always commented on her show about the two dating, or at least touring together, but the duo (mostly Rihanna) always shut the idea down or brushed it off.
Now it seems like that idea is gaining a lot of momentum as Drakes’ public displays of affection become incredibly... public.
Now, while many members of Rihanna’s Navy completely ship the two, there are still others who are more skeptical of the pairing, myself included.
Drake is a good guy, but that's the problem. With memes going around about what type of person Drake is, it's hard to think of Aubrey Graham as the kind of guy who can keep up with the self proclaimed bad-girl, especially if his songs - some of which being very emotional - are any indication of who he really is.
For this reason, it would seem like a joke for the good guy to be with the bad girl, but as it turns out, Drake could actually be a great for Rihanna and vice versa. His bold public moves and displays of affection do put Rihanna on the spot, but she seems to always react in a positive and playful way (even if it looks like she's shoving him back in the friend zone) and as much as it pains me to say it, they may be a perfect match.
I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald women like Rihanna who can be classified as Alpha females, need dependable, supportive partners who are Beta males.
When women are as strong, successful, and independent as Rihanna is, they typically need to find balance in a partner. The world knows that Drake is that perfect supportive girlfriend boyfriend, and that's not to say that he is beneath her, he just knows when to take a step back and let his partner take the reigns.
Like he did with Nicki Minaj, he showers people with tons of support and admiration without overstepping his boundaries, which Rihanna hasn't publicly had from a partner in a long time, and considering that Rihanna has dated power players before, it would be a nice change of pace to date a Beta who compliments her rather than someone who competes with her.
This is not to say that Rihanna couldn't manage to be with an Alpha, but it just doesn't always work for her or many others.
Think, even the biggest power couple in the music industry has it's downfalls. Beyoncé and Jay-Z are one of the strongest celebrity couples out there (both alpha’s) and they seemed perfect until Queen Bey dropped her legendary album Lemonade and spilled the juice on hints about cheating. From a viewers standpoint, this kicked Jay-Z from the spotlight to give Beyoncé some room to reign, and possibly saved their relationship, but that's all speculation.
In reality, we will never know for sure but one thing we do know is that each individual's personalities have the ability to make or break a relationship. Rihanna and Drake have the ability to be a perfect couple, but they need privacy and work to decide what’s best for them. Maybe it will work out, maybe it won't. We will just have to wait and see.
