This upcoming week, Taylor Swift will be making a public appearance in court against former DJ David Mueller who allegedly sexually assaulted Swift while posing together for a picture in 2013. There will be 32 seats open to the public on a first come first serve basis and an overflow room for 75 people. While the court room will be open to the public, now isn't the time to line up outside and ask Taylor for her autograph.
While Taylor is a celebrity and well-known pop star, she's a human just like the rest of us.
This is a court trial regarding sexual assault, an issue that shouldn't be taken lightly no matter how famous someone might be.
We all want to meet our idols, but seeing them walking down the street versus in a court room for a sexual assault trial are two different things. Now is not the time to tell her how much you adore her and how many concerts of hers that you've been to.
While I'm sure she appreciates it, now isn't the time.
If you're going to this trial, be respectful. This isn't a concert of hers, so don't try to grab her or start yelling her name to get her attention. This is one of Taylor's hardest moments of her career and possibly even her life. But yourself in her shoes and act appropriately.
Taylor isn't going to court to sing or put on a show to the jury or anyone in the court room. She's going to testify and get justice for a crime that was committed. She will be donating any money that she earns from this to organizations that assist and protect women from similar acts of sexual assault.
There's no doubt that this trial will bring a lot of public attention (even more than it already has), but this isn't a meet and greet opportunity, so don't make Taylor's pain and trouble a spectacle and trivialize it and treat it like one.
A courtroom isn't the place to see your favorite celebrity.
