Nine Atlanta-Based Companies

Who knew so many companies were from Atlanta?

Maybe I’m biased, but I think Atlanta, Ga., is one of the greatest cities in the United States. It is an amazing place to live and work. Atlanta is home to 18 Fortune 500 companies. These are some companies based in Atlanta that I bet you didn’t know about.


1. CNN

The Cable News Network is a 24-hour television station that broadcasts the news. It was on launched June 1, 1980. CNN is currently available to over 96 million households!

2. Delta Air Lines

Delta is a major airline based at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. It was founded on May 30, 1924. Delta is the world’s largest airline based on the number of passengers flown (120.6 million).

3. The Coca-Cola Company

Coca-Cola is an Atlanta-based beverage corporation that was founded in 1886 by a pharmacist. There are only two countries in the world that Coke does not do business with: North Korea and Cuba. 1.7 billion servings of Coke products are consumed every day!

4. Great American Cookies

Great American Cookies is a chain of independently franchised stores specializing in cookies. It has over 290 stores in the United States. The company was founded in 1977.

5. Mellow Mushroom

Mellow Mushroom is a pizzeria founded in 1974 in Atlanta. It has over 150 locations nationwide. Their pizza is very yummy!

6. Moe’s Southwest Grill

Moe’s is a fast food Mexican restaurant with delicious burritos and queso that was founded in Atlanta in December 2000. As of July 2014, there were more than 550 locations in the United States.

7. Planet Smoothie

Planet Smoothie is the third largest smoothie chain in the country. It was founded in 1995 and has over 100 locations. Thank you Atlanta for providing us with delicious smoothies!

8. RaceTrac

RaceTrac is a corporation that provides gas stations and convenience stores to the southern U.S. The firm is Georgia’s third largest private company, with sales of $9.1 billion. It was founded in 1934.

9. Home Depot

Home Depot is a manufacturer of home improvement and construction products. It is located all across the United States as well as in Mexico and Canada. It was founded in 1978.
