Thank you for everything

A Thank You Letter To My Big Brother
Caitlin Brossman

So to start off, I have probably have the best big brother a girl could ask for!

My brother and I are 10 years apart, I am 19 and well you can do the math because I don't think that he would like me to put his age. My brother is pretty much my best friend. Everyone that knows us tells us that we could pretty much be twins. Even though when we are together sometimes people think we are a couple. Come on people, you can't tell that we look a like! Funny story relating to the couple comment, We were in Florida and we took a day trip to Universal Studios and we took a shuttle back to our resort and everyone on the shuttle were couples, so our driver thought that we were also couple, around this time I was 15. So our driver really thought that a 15 year old was dating a 25 year old who is my BROTHER. We didn't say anything, we just laughed about it. Now he lives in New York and left me all alone. But that's okay now because I am in college now.

I am writing this to say thank you to my big brother. I do have some pictures but I don't have pictures for everything.

Thank you for all the countless laughs.

Which would be all the times you have tripped in public, me scaring you and you freaking out, or saying the first word you are thinking instead of the actual word, for explain he would say, "can you get me a rubberband?" but what he really meant was can you get a brownie. (that is a true story)

Thank you for always being there to support me.

Whether it be musicals, cheerleading at football games, PowderPuff games, Girl Scouts, graduating high school and what ever else I did, you always made sure to be there.

Thank you for always listening to my rants.

From typical girl drama to everything in between you were always there to listen

Thank you for always helping me.

For example, every time I had project, you were first person I went to and even though you did not want to do it, you still helped me. So thanks for all those A's on my projects/papers. It's confession time, my graduation cap, my brother did it, not me

Thank you for coming home for my events.

Everything, from senior rec night, musicals, powerpuff games, Winter Carnival, proms and graduation, you never missed a thing.

Thank you for always making time for me.

Before you moved to New York, no matter what time it was you always hung out with me and now you always take the time to plan my weekend trips to New York to see you and of course to see some Broadway shows as well.

And the most important one, Thank you for being my best friend.

Through it all, you were always there. No matter what it was, like my knee surgery, when I was sick, cheerleading, competitions, prom dress shopping, Winter Carnival, graduation and everything else. You were always cheering me on. You always know how to make me laugh. You truly are my best friend even though sometimes you probably didn't want to be.

Thank you for everything you have everything you have done for me and for always being in my corner. I will always be on your side through it all. Just remember when you make it big, that I will be that proud little sister in audience.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
