To My Parents

As the rest of my life approaches, here is a reminder of how much I love the two of you.

Mom and Dad,

As the rest of my life approaches, there are some things I need you to know. Although I will never be able to truly express how much love and appreciation I have for the two of you, I will try my best here..

1. I'm sorry for all of the times I have been (and will be) incredibly frustrating and hard to deal with.

I know that raising me has not always been easy. From my short temper and my sassy mouth, to my sometimes lazy attitude, I can only imagine just how frustrating I can be to you two sometimes.

2. You two are the most important people in my life.

I know that as I've grown up, I've made new friends who have become family, and because of that, gained new families to add into my heart. Although this is true, I hope the two of you never forget that the two of you are my best friends. I could not do life without the two of you.

3. Thank you for your unconditional love and support.

I am so thankful to say that no matter what it is that I go through in this life, I know that you two will ALWAYS be standing in my corner. Even when I'm so scared to disappoint you or anger you, you both always end up showing me that you'll love me no matter what. Neither of you have EVER given up on me, and that on its own makes me so grateful.

4. No matter where I go and who I become, I will always call YOU home.

As my 18th birthday, high school graduation, and the start of the rest of my life comes near, I know that it's scaring you guys (even if you don't want to admit it.) However, I hope you two know that I will never go too far.

5. The two of you are truly my heroes.

As a family we have been through so much over the years, and we've all dealt with so much. Throughout all of it I watched the two of you stay so strong despite of the pain, just for us. You've both always put yourselves second for me and the rest of our family. I know none of us tell you enough, but I am so unbelievably grateful for EVERYTHING.

Like I said, I will never fully be able to express everything to you two, but I really hope that you know I love you beyond words and I would not and could not be who I am today without you. Thank you for raising me so well and for showing me so much love, compassion, and joy. Never forget how much I appreciate you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
