Thank You Letter To My College Best Friends
Annie Symons

I was so lucky to find my best friends living on my floor my freshman year of college. Even though we all met during rush and ended up in different sororities there’s not a doubt in my mind these girls are my sisters. I know I never say it enough but I appreciate all of you and all the little things you do for me and that we do for each other. I don’t know how I could’ve ever survived this far without you looking out for me.

To my friends,

Thank you for still wanting to hang out with me even when I’m super grumpy.

Thank you for making me do laundry when my hamper fills up and I’m too lazy to do it.

Thank you for knowing I need to run to get over a bad day and bringing me to the gym with you.

And thank you for always encouraging me to eat more chocolate.

Thank you for listening to me scream and rant about every problem I’ve ever had since coming to school, and thanks for reminding me to stand up for myself and reminding me my worth when people are mean.

Thank you for honestly telling me your opinions about boys, and thanks for always telling me I’m prettier than that girl anyways.

Thank you for always being my standing dining hall date.

Thanks for letting me snuggle in your bed and eat your food when we can’t make it to the dining hall.

Thanks for watching Christmas movies with me after a long day of studying, and for knocking on my door just to say hi just cause you’re walking by.

Thanks for noticing when I wear makeup once a month and for complimenting me the few days I put on jeans instead of sweats.

Thanks for loving me like a sister, and always supporting me.

Even though our time together has only been a few months, thanks for treating me like it’s been years, and will be more to come.

I love you, thanks for being my people.

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
