A Thank You Letter To Taylor Swift

Without a doubt, music has one of the biggest influences on our lives. Music can understand things in a way people just can't. One musician who has been there for me for 10 years is Taylor Swift. Taylor has been there for me when I couldn't relate to anyone else. I want to use the platform I've been given to tell her "thank you."

First, I want to say thank you for fighting for our rights as women. It means so much to have a strong woman using her status and wealth for good. Thank you for being such a strong example of a successful woman. You show the world that it's okay to love glitter and baking and still be a feminist. I've seen pieces claiming you aren't a feminist or that you advocate white feminism. I could not disagree more. Your "squad" includes women of all races, and you make a point to support female artists. You donated $250,000 to support Kesha quietly without drawing attention to yourself and making the focus on you.

Thank you for teaching us it's good to move forward and reinvent yourself. Thank you for teaching us that even when you grow up, always be proud of what you've accomplished. You still own all of your older works and defend them to this day.

Thank you for teaching us to be generous. Throughout your career, you have become someone known for her community service and charity work. You show us how rewarding it is to give back to others. You could easily ignore the world's problems and enjoy your wealth, but instead, you share it with those in need.

Like most other people, I have had my heart broken. I have been cheated on time and time again. I have been emotionally abused and left with broken promises. Your music has always understood exactly how it feels. Your songs validate my feelings. I can turn on "All Too Well" and relate so much.

One of my favorite quotes to live by is, "No matter what happens in life, be good to people. Being good to people is a wonderful legacy to leave behind." I sometimes have a lot of bitterness in my heart, especially for people who have wronged me. When I feel hate rising in my heart, I just remember this quote and feel a lot better.

Most importantly, I want to thank you for teaching us to own who we are. I have so many self-confidence issues, both as a result of past relationships and my anxiety and depression. As you sing in your song, "Haters gonna hate." When I feel down about myself or I feel fat, I just turn up your song and I feel a little better.

I will defend you always. Thank you from the very bottom of my heart.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

1. When you've finally found the energy to leave your dorm room and walk into the lib like

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
