Tips For Maintaining Healthy Skin

There are many stressful things adolescents have to deal with when starting a new job or the new school year. Maybe you trekked all the way to school just to find out your class has been cancelled, or you spilled coffee on all of your books and papers. Yikes. Stress is everywhere, but it shouldn’t have to appear in distracting blemishes on your face. The way you feel on the outside can heavily impact your confidence level and happiness for the day, and no one should have to struggle with dull dirty skin. Taking care of yourself will make it easier to carry yourself and combat these first world problems.

1. Aloe

Aloe aloe aloe! Aloe is a great hydrating agent and has antibacterial properties that ward off acne. It helps fade acne scars, minimizes redness, and shrinks the appearance of pimples. The gel from aloe leaves is extremely soothing and works very fast at healing the skin. You can mix the aloe gel with other healing agents such as honey or yogurt, but it works just fine on its own. You can reapply from time to time once it dries and has been absorbed by your skin. It also works well if you leave it on overnight.

2. Honey

Honey has similar abilities as aloe. It locks moisture into your skin but also possesses antibacterial properties, which also helps it to prevent infection. Like aloe, honey works great on the skin alone. Dabbing some honey on acne scars or pimples will help treat them. Leave it on for approximately 20 minutes before washing it off.

3. Mayonnaise

I was surprised at how refreshed my skin felt after using mayonnaise as an at home facial. Mayonnaise is composed of eggs a lot of healthy oils that both work to nourish and moisturize your skin. Leaving approximately one tablespoon of mayo on for about 10 minutes should give your skin a nice blast of hydration.

4. Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Olive oil can be used for replenishing the skin with moisture and getting rid of dry flaky skin. Typically it is better to use it in a mixture with other ingredients. You can mix 1 tablespoon of olive oil with 1 tablespoon of honey for a nice quick facial. If you add a tablespoon of granulated sugar it becomes a hydrating scrub that will leave your skin feeling soft and smooth.

5. Yogurt

Yogurt is very similar to mayonnaise when it comes to at home facials. When using yogurt make sure it is plain and unsweetened for best results. Yogurt has anti aging properties that work to diminish wrinkles and lines around the face. Like mayonnaise, yogurt will cling on to dead skin, so gently removing the yogurt or mayo from your face with a washcloth will remove dead skin as well.

6. Apple Cider Vinegar

If you have oily or acne prone skin you might want to look into the benefits that apple cider vinegar has on your skin. It balances the pH level of your skin and helps it appear brighter and more vibrant. However, it is important to keep in mind that its acidic, so be cautious around your eyes. You can apply it to your face with a cotton ball or add it to a mixture of your liking.

Don't fret when your stress starts to show on your skin. Drink water, cleanse your face daily, and moisturize to keep a healthy youthful glow!

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
