Meet The Reporter: Why I chose to be a Sun Devil
Michael Gutnick

My journey into becoming an aspiring sports journalist is a little bit different than everyone else in my major.

Originally, I was planning on going to UCLA and majoring in Philosophy. And I was a click away from doing that, actually.

However, a school in the desert that is hotter than hell, caught my eyes. Within it, two of my favorite things were combined.

Sports and talking about sports.

Okay, so maybe it was the sports and the good weather.

Trust me when I say that it really is a DRY HEAT. You might get a bit sunburnt, but at least you won't sweat as much as you would in the humidity.

I came into Cronkite to major in Sports Journalism with no prior experience in the journalism realm. The closest experience I had to journalism was the yearbook class I took my senior year of high school.

I was surrounded by kids who knew they wanted to be journalists for as long as they could remember. Many had even won awards in high school for their journalistic work.

However, I never felt left out.

Cronkite is really a tight-knit community with a family feel to it that makes you feel at home.

Everyone is in this together and is willing to help each other out in whatever way possible.

Being able to have a community away from home is what helped me make Arizona home.

No matter what, I will always be grateful for my Sun Devil family.

If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
