One of my friends from my America Coast to Coast bike tours came to visit me at college. It was amazing seeing him after two years apart, but I am not a very good host and I didn't know how to entertain the kid. So we decided to take a walk around Church Street and see where that takes us. My friend pulls me aside and tells me he's got a really fun idea. We decided to buy a magic 8-ball, a birthday card and a pen. This interesting combination of items made for one of the most fun and interesting nights of my life.
Basically, the point of the game was we asked the magic 8-ball what we should do before we made in formal decisions. For example: "Oh mighty magic 8-ball, should we take a right or a left, or should we walk in to urban outfitters?" What ever that all powerful ball said, we obeyed. Along with that, we decided that every approachable person we see we will ask them to sign a birthday card for a friend. I decided the card will go out to one of my friends in the dorm, even though his birthday isn't until March. He would of taken the joke the best.
I approached maybe 20 people and asked them to sign my birthday card and, 9 out of 10 times, they were totally cool with it! They drew pictures, did name descriptions, pretended like they knew him and started bringing up "old times" they spent together. It was one of the funniest experiences ever and even made a couple friends along the way.
By the end of the night, with the magic 8-ball request, we ended up at this noodle restaurant for dinner. My friend and I reminisced over old times while reading the amazing greetings the strangers wrote on the card. My other friend ended up loving the card for him and it is a really unique gift. It is nice to see how strangers will wish a happy birthday to someone they don't even know by the request of someone they don't know.
The weekend was memorable and fun and a really unique way to spend my time and get to know the people who live there.
