Before you move into your first college apartment, there are a few things you'll need to know and you're just hoping your roommate will have the answers. But if they don't, then it'll be just as fun to figure it out along the way.
1. What do we actually need to bring?
Because figuring this out can often be the trickiest part of packing and moving into your first place. Having too much stuff can be overwhelming, and you don't want to forget the necessities.
2. Do we have this specific item?
This question applies to at least half the things that will end up in your apartment. Including tables, a couch, a tv, pots and pans, etc.
3. What are the measurements for all the rooms?
We need to know how much of our stuff we can realistically fit into our new home, and what size furniture will actually be too big. Getting the furniture to fit in your room is a problem that can't be solved as easily as others.
4. Are there toilet paper holders and towel racks?
It's a simple question that you wish you would have paid attention to when you were touring the complex. It's not a big deal to sort out when you get there, though.
5. How much stuff do we actually need for our cats?
It's a well-known thing that if you own a cat they rule the house. Chances are your cats will have nicer things than you and will actually still have food even when you have to eat Ramen Noodles.
6. Is there carpet in the bedrooms?
This is not that important of a question, but it's still a nice thing to know. It helps you know if you'll need a vacuum and what decorations or furniture will be too slick to place down.
7. Do we have an idea in mind for the living room and kitchen?
8. Does this accent color go with the color scheme we already have?
Not that anybody's first apartment actually matches and look cohesive, everyone usually ends up looking like a hodgepodge of whatever y'all had at your separate homes, but it's not going to stop you from trying.
9. Who is going to get the bigger bathroom?
The bigger bathroom is obviously an advantage in itself, but the other room usually has its advantages of its own. Really it's not that big of a deal and the two of you are able to come to an easy decision.
10. Are you as excited as I am?
Deciding on decorations and furniture arrangements is actually a whole lot more fun when it's your own place. With each passing day that goes by the two of you grow increasingly more excited for your move-in day to come. Now the only problem left is going to be getting everything you brought through the door and bringing your vision to life.
