As You Retire

Who knew your years of working could teach me so much.

As You Retire
How Two Guide

Dear Mom,

Since it is now past your little shindig your amazing coworkers threw for you for serving 41 years and I officially made you happy by saying a few words in front of a room full of people that I barely knew, I wanted to actually write something for you from me, myself, and I.

I am amazed by you in every way possible. How did you begin working for such an amazing company at such a young age while taking night classes and somehow still have good self-care to not crash through all that stress? That alone pushes me through college. Along with dad, you have provided me with ten times more than your parents tried to provide for you and I cannot thank you enough. It is clear to see that you matured at such a young age. You knew what you needed to do to improve yourself when you went through bad times. I see more than ever, where I now get that from.

As you married dad and began our family, you somehow managed working, cooking, cleaning, taking care of two kids, along with taking care of grandmom and providing her a place to live so she wasn't alone. In so many ways, you are so selfless. Even though dad did help of course, with the stories you have told me, I see that you are and have always been very independent and ambitious to give yourself a good life without the help of a man by your side.

While also showing me it is important to love your job and strive in wherever I end up working, you have also managed to teach me family and love is more important and that time spent with the people you love is never wasted time. You taught Frankie along with I how to balance work and play throughout your years of work, which I am definitely using in college. With the friends you have made through work, you also showed me how friendships can be made anywhere with anyone and that while working with someone who causes drama may be stressful, sometimes you have to just let go and focus on the bigger picture.

So thank you, thank you for teaching me everything from the importance of love to having an amazing work ethic. You deserve a lifetime of stress-free days after you retire. I love you more!

Love,

Your favorite daughter

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.
