College Break

As Told By Dogs

College Break

Breaks from college are great! I get to see my dogs. I don’t have classes. I get to see my dogs. I can relax at home with my family. I get to see my dogs. I can rest a bit before stressing about my homework. What am I forgetting? Oh yeah! I get to see my dogs! If there is one group more excited than college students for breaks from school, it is the pets of college students. For me, I am lucky enough to walk through the door to five wagging tails attached to five excited dogs, all of them jumping for their chance to give me kisses. I only wonder how they feel about me coming home for break.

College break, as told by dogs:

1. Anticipation

One of my favorite humans said that one of my other favorite human is finally coming back! When will they get here? How long have they been gone? Oh I miss them! I’m going to wait right here until they get back!

2. Hearing a Car Door Close

This one must be my human for sure! It has to be! I’ve been waiting here for… a long time! I really want my human to walk through that door!

3. Hearing Steps on the Stair

It is my human! They’re finally here! I have to rush to the door to meet them when they walk in!

4. Why Is My Human Taking So Long?

It seems like I’ve been running for forever! Why aren’t they in here yet? Has this hallway gotten longer? I need to be at the door when they walk in!

5. Greeting My Human

My human requires a lot of attention. If I don’t give my human the appropriate amount of attention the moment they walk through the door, they turn around and leave again! I know my human loves kisses, so I make sure to give my human a lot of kisses and attention!

6. Receiving Treats

My human loves to give me extra food when they have been gone for so long. I know it brings them joy, so it would only be selfish of me to ignore their desire to give me treats, right?

7. My Human Seems Sad…?

My human has only been home for… a short time, but they seem to be sad? I must not have given the appropriate amount of attention to my human. I know what I can do! ACTIVATE: Puppy Mode!

8. Leaving Already?!

My human is already leaving?! This can’t be true! Where are they going? Why would they want to leave me? Last time they left, they left for… a really long time! They aren’t even out of the door yet and I’m already feeling down. Will they come back for me?

9. Car Door?

What? Are they back already! Oh my dogness, I thought they were leaving me forever! I need to be ready! I have to meet them at the door! Oh I am so glad they came back!

My dogs certainly miss me when I’m gone. Surely they know I’ll return to them, right?

How do your dogs react when you come back home? Do they know that you need appropriate levels of attention?

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
