Summer is coming to an end. That's never a statement you want to hear. When last semester finished, you never wanted college to be over. Well, you wanted finals to be over, but all of your friends and you were parting ways to see each other again in three months. Three months felt like the longest time ever when it started. Now that it's almost over, it feels like the shortest time. This summer has gone by fast, but you have plenty of memories to reflect on.
Summer vacations such as going to the beach, maybe Disney World, some other amusement park, maybe even going out of the country...those are all so many memories you can hold onto as you get ready to get back to school. You got to spend a lot of time with all of those high school friends who you parted ways with when college started, and you all went different places. You got to catch up on all of their drama from the last school year from horrible dates, awful professors, or on the bright side, the great times they had with college friends, great dates, amazing professors (those are rare), and parties they went to. It's always fun sharing your college memories with long-lost friends, and seeing how college has changed you all. Have one last bonfire, movie night, whatever you do, before all of you go back to school.
If you were like me and worked this summer, that job is finally coming to an end. Granted, if you're also like me, you've worked that job every summer for years. It's always something you can come back to, and it's always fun catching up with co-workers who have turned into friends over the years. It's a completely different world being a college kid working a summer job when most people who work it are high schoolers, but now you have some advice to give those high school kids. I know many times this summer when I asked the two questions every one of them is scared of answering, "Where do you plan on going to college? What do you want to do?" they all gave me the doe in the headlights look. This is when you tell them, "Hey, you have time. Don't stress it. When you find the college for you, you'll know as soon as you walk on campus." College, surprisingly, gives you some wisdom and you remember what it was like when you were deciding.
As summer draws to a close and time with parents shortens, make sure to spend time with them. They love you, and don't get to see you too often during the school year. If they could keep you around forever, they would. Give them that one last embarrassing moment as they drive you back to college, decorating your apartment or dorm, taking pictures of everything. They're your parents; they're supposed to be embarrassing. If you're like me and still live at home because you can commute, still spend time with them. College keeps everyone extremely busy, they know that, and you know that. So, give them all of the time you can while you can.
Another great part of summer coming to an end is the end of summer classes. Whether they were online or on campus, you have never been more thankful for classes to be over. It seems to be a lot harder to care about school in the summer, but thankfully you knocked some classes out so you didn't have to take them this year. It has been a rough summer of taking classes, but you won't regret it later. It may have caused you to miss out on some great plans with friends, but at least you got it out of the way. They're just a few less classes to worry about later.
In the end, all of us are excited for school to start back so we can catch up with old friends, get back in the swing of things. However, it's a bittersweet feeling. We'll all miss summer, but remember all of the memories we've made when times get tough during the school year. If you're really dreading going back, there's fall break in a few months, and almost a month break in December for the holidays, so there's that to look forward to. We all enjoyed this summer, and it sucks to get back to school, but you know secretly you can't wait. Enjoy the end of summer, because it'll be over before you know it.
