Man, where did summer go?
It's already time to move back into college! This past couple of months has completely flown by. It feels like just yesterday I was finishing up my final exams and moving back home for summer. It's now August and the move-in week is quickly approaching. I move in this week, but everyone else usually moves in towards the end of August.
Have you seen all the back to college necessities at Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Marshalls and Kohls? You might be thinking all of this stuff is a lot cuter than the stuff you already have for you dorm or apartment that you got last year. If you are anything like me, then you probably bought yourself a new bed comforter and are sitting here wondering what you will do with two. If you are a freshman moving away to college is a big deal, and you are probably anxious and so ready to leave your parents. You have probably googled and printed off a bunch of college check lists and are going through your stuff to see if you got everything you need or well everything that was listed on the check lists.
If no one has told you, let me be the first to tell you that most of the stuff on the college checklists you most likely won't ever touch and that they will just be collecting dust in your room. Especially don't buy an alarm clock because you will never use it, let's be real you will just set an alarm on your phone because that's much easier.
Move in day is approaching and your car is packed, and you have double checked your list a million times standing in the driveway. When you arrive at school and unpack all of your stuff into your dorm room, your mom is going to want to empty your bags for you, make your bed and place everything around your room. Let her; she is leaving you for college for the next eight months. When she leaves, you will be able to mix and move everything around the way you want it to look. She most likely won't be visiting you often or at all especially if you are traveling far to attend school. Don't move your furniture around until you discuss with your roommate how you want the room to look.
Move in day is also going to be extremely hot, it's in the dead heat of summer, and you will be dripping sweat carrying all of your stuff to your dorm. I suggest you find out the time you can move in and get there a half an hour before. If you get there as early as possible, you will get a good parking spot that is close to your building, and you most likely won't have to deal with a big crowd moving into the same hallway. It's also best to be early because you won't have to wait in a long line to get your room key and find out your orientation information. This is going to be a fantastic school year. Focus on your studies and make your parents proud.
