As a girl I am told that respectable girls don’t burp, cuss, or fidget too much in church.

As a girl I am told that I cross my legs when I sit.

As a girl I am told that if a boy teases me or hits me he likes me.

As a girl I am told that I cannot experiment with makeup until I am old enough.

As a girl I am told to wear pretty things.

As a girl I am told that Mother Nature will visit once a month from now on.

As a girl I am told that my outer ward appearance will start to change and boys will start to notice me.

As a girl I am told that boys will start to have certain feeling for girls my age now.

As a girl I am told that my first date will be the most awkward thing ever.

As a girl I am told that going on to develop feelings too soon portrays me as clingy or needy.

As a girl I am told that I should be careful whom I date in high school because everyone will know my business.

As a girl I am told to watch out for the players that date a different girl every week.

As a girl I am told that I should do certain things because he is my boyfriend and that he “loves me”.

As a girl I am told “no one will see them” or “if you love me you will send a pic”.

As a girl I am told that sending pictures to a guy makes me a slut.

As a girl I am told that I shouldn’t have too many boyfriends in one month because I would look like I sleep around.

As a girl I am told to be safe at college and to keep my pepper spray on me.

As a girl I am told to call someone if I ever have to walk home late by myself.

As a girl I am told to not drink too much at a party because I might get raped.

As a girl I am told to not wear short skirts because I am asking for it.

As a girl I am told that I shouldn’t have multiple sex partners because that is disgusting.

As a girl I am told that I should respect my body and treat it like a temple.

As a girl I am told that I should not express my sexual desires or flaunt off my body because it looks like I am easy.

As a girl I am told to portray a certain image or role.

As a girl I am told that I shouldn’t become a police officer or firefighter because it’s too dangerous for little girls like me.

As a girl I am told that he will get the box because it looks too heavy for me to carry.

As a girl I am told that I wont get the job because I don’t meet the qualifications a male does.

As a girl I am told many thing, but they will not define me.
