There comes a time in everyone's life when they need to move on and let go. Too often people get caught up in the mess of their past, and it prevents them from living a happy and healthy future. Moving on can be difficult and scary, but it's something everyone needs to do. Whether you are moving on to a new chapter in your life, starting from scratch, or changing your mindset, the only way to move forward is to let go of the past. Moving on means letting go of things that no longer serve you any good. These are a few things to say goodbye to in order to move toward a brighter future.

Say goodbye to toxic people.

Anyone who hurt you does not deserve a spot in your life anymore. Friends are going to come and go throughout the years, and it's totally okay. Toxic people prevent you from being happy and only drag you down and hurt your heart. It can be hard eliminating people from your life, but make this the year that you believe you deserve better. Make this the year you cut ties with people who bring nothing but anger and tears into your life. Having toxic people in your life is like drinking poison, you are only hurting yourself in the end. Say goodbye to anyone who doesn't make you happy.

Say goodbye to negative thoughts.

Leave behind that little voice in your head telling you that you are not worth it or not good enough, because you are. Negative thoughts will never give you a positive life. Stop bullying yourself and replace the bad thoughts with good ones. Negativity impacts your mental and physical health and makes for a pretty crappy life. Make your future a negativity free zone and focus on the positives, you will be a lot happier.

Say goodbye to unrealistic expectations.

It's great to set goals, but you have to make sure they are within reach. Eliminate those crazy diets and weight loss goals, they are only going to lead to disappointment. Stop setting yourself up for failure because that will just lead to self deprecation. Don't put so much pressure on yourself, you are doing the best you can and that is good enough. Don't be so hard on yourself. Instead set realistic goals that you can reach and will make you feel good about yourself.

Say goodbye to unhealthy habits.

Whatever it is you do to hurt yourself physically or mentally has got to go. You only have this one life and body and you should love and cherish them both. Stop starving yourself, stop biting your nails, stop the self deprecating thoughts, just stop harming your health. Go to bed earlier, shower often, cut your hair, go for a walk, do some yoga. In order to be happy you have to be healthy, so kiss those unhealthy habits goodbye.

Say goodbye to the pain and heartache.

Wipe away the tears of your past away and move on. Forget about the hardships and pain you endured over your lifetime. You cannot be happy if you carry all your old baggage with you into your clear future. Whatever happened is over and done and you learned from it. Stop holding onto things that make you sad or bitter, what's the point of that? Let it all go, you deserve a fresh start and a life filled with happiness.

Say goodbye to the mistakes you made.

Shit happens, but regret takes up a lot of room in your life that could be better spent on something else. Everyone makes mistakes and it doesn't make you a bad person. Stop punishing yourself for the blunders you made and begin to forgive yourself for them. Mistakes are just lessons learned, so go forward regret free and a year wiser.

If you let go everything that brought you down in the past, you are making room for wonderful things in the future. Burn the pictures, throw away the scale, forgive yourself, think positively, and be happy. However your life has been going, good, bad, or somewhere in between, just know that tomorrow is a new day and you can change it. The pages are blank, it's up to you to write yourself a better future. The art of moving on is never easy, but it is worth it.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
