5 Artists To Check Out When Making Your Next Playlist

Everyone enjoys new music. Many go through the same list of songs over and over — I know I tend to do that. So, I figured why not a short list of artists to check out! Here are some recommended albums from different genres to help expand your library.

The Neighbourhood

You might remember these guys from their breakout song "Sweater Weather," but this rock band has evolved their sound and made some really amazing music since their single came out in 2013. Their beach-sounding vibe is reflective of their West Coast roots, and their music is perfect for those just looking to relax and cruise to some easy tunes to listen to.

Recommended Album: "Wiped Out!"

Recommended Songs: "Cry Baby," "Daddy Issues," and "Single"

Why: It's got dreamy sound and catchy lyrics. Honestly, it's an all-around enjoyable listen.

SG Lewis

If you're looking for something new from the EDM genre, SG Lewis is someone you should definitely check out! His atmospheric sound is unmatched. He is sure to have you waiting for more music when you realize he doesn't have too much out yet. His music is calming; it fills you an indescribable joy whenever you hear his distinctive and comforting tone come on.

Recommended EP: "Dusk"

Recommended Songs: "Sunsets - Pt. 2," "Coming Up," and "Dreaming (feat. Bruno Major)"

Brothers Osborne

For some new country to listen to, I have to recommend Brothers Osborne. Their song "21 Summer" helped get me into country music. Since then, they have released their second studio album "Port Saint Joe." Their music varies from something you'd listen to while just kicking it to something you'd want to dance to with your favorite person. Not your typical country, their sound is different, really leaving you mesmerized. Grab those around you that you want to make memories with, and make sure you have some Brothers Osborne playing when you do.

Recommended Album: "Port Saint Joe"

Recommended Songs: "Pushing Up Daisies (Love Alive)," "A Little Bit Trouble," and "While You Still Can"

PARTYNEXTDOOR

Drake's collaborator and fellow Toronto native PARTYNEXTDOOR is a must if you want to listen to a good mix of Rap and R&B. With two studio albums out and three extended plays, he has a wide variety of music to choose from. His sound ranges from songs to listen to on a rainy day to songs to play with your friends on a Friday night. None of his songs sound the same — he always changes up his style for something refreshing.

Recommended EP: "PARTYNEXTDOOR"

Recommended Songs: "Break From Toronto," "Wus Good/Curious," and "Relax With Me"

Hippo Campus

Last (definitely not the least) is Hippo Campus. Their sound is different than many other artists. This indie band has a lot of songs you can drive around to but also play while jamming in the shower. They recently released their second album "Bambi," and don't look to be stopping anytime soon. Check them out if you are looking for an artist that you can get right into and stay hooked on!

Recommended Album: "Landmark"

Recommended Songs: "Vacation," "Tuesday," and "Epitaph."

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
