I love how effortlessly easy it is to just start my car up and flip through my programed stations so that I can jam to music as I drive to my destination. However, I think that what overpowers my love for this is the exasperation I have that the same seven songs are played on repeat for weeks on end no matter what station I happen to be listening to. How is it that we have thousands of talented artists in the world, but I only get to enjoy about ten of them if i decide to listen to the radio because I'm too lazy to plug my phone in and choose myself.

With this in mind, I decided to take it upon myself to search high and low for artists that aren't quite getting the recognition they deserve. I bring you some of the artists i'm currently obsessing over and I believe that you should be too.

1. Melanie Martinez

This 21-year-old American singer and songwriter started her journey of fame on season three of The Voice. She made it to the top six but was eliminated, however she didn't let that stop her from achieving her dreams. Her album Cry Baby dropped in 2015 and I've been obsessing over it and her since.

Favorite songs: "Pity Party", "Milk and Cookies", and "Mad Hatter"

2. Pvris

Pvris is an American rock band that consists of three members; Lyndsey Gunnulfsen, Alex Babinski, and Brian MacDonald. They started their career by releasing a self-titled EP in early 2014 and by November 2014 the released their first album, White Noise. Their music has a dark and beat-heavy sound to it.

Favorite songs: "Holy", "Mind Over Matter", and "My House"

3. Kat Dahlia

This cuban artist was born in Miami, Florida and music has always been apart of her life. Kat has been a rapper, singer and songwriter since the age of eight and moved to New York City at the age of eighteen to really pursue her career; she currently has two albums and two singles

Favorite songs: "I Think I'm In Love", "Crazy", and "Saturday Sunday"

4. Daya

Surprise: her real name is Grace Tandon. She is an American singer and songwriter that started her career in 2015 with the release of her first album. Usually first albums are a hit or miss but Daya's album features the song Hide Away which made it on Billboard Hot 100.

Favorite songs: "Sit Still Look Pretty", "Back To Me", and "Hide Away"

5. Alexander Jean

This band consists of two members, BC Jean and Mark Ballas; they met at a showcase in Los Angeles. Since meeting they released a single Roses and Violets which landed on iTunes overall chart as well as an album in 2016. They pride themselves on the fact that they write and create all of their music between the two of them.

Favorite songs: "Roses and Violets", "Whiskey and Morphine", and "Head High"

A Few Thoughts Every College Freshman Has

The transition into adulthood is never easy

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
