6 Artists To Keep On Your Music Radar In 2019

In This Article:

2018 has been a huge year for music in every genre. We've had amazing albums and single from artists who are new to the game and some who have been in the industry for several years. However, if you thought 2018 was congested with music, you ain't got nothing on the line up for 2019. It was hard picking from my list but I was able to put together a short list of artists who are going to dominate the music sphere in 2019.

1. Normani

Giphy

Normani has been in the game for the last six years from being in the girl group, Fifth Harmony, but now she is making way through the industry as a solo artist. She has had an amazing year being featured on the Love Simon Movie Soundtrack with Khalid on the song Love Lies which is still on the Top 50 Music Charts. She was also featured on a song on Quavo's album called "Swing" with Nigerian artist Davido. She's released three singles from her upcoming solo album that's set to come out next summer and the music video for her next single "Waves" is set to come out before the end of the year.

2. Anitta

Giphy

Anitta is a Latin artist on the rise and is getting ready to cross over to the US mainstream music. She's known for being the "Beyonce of Brazil" for the last ten years and she's only twenty-five years old. She's been popular in Latin music within the last year with collaborations with J Balvin and Maluma as well as releasing a tri-lingual EP in Spanish, Portuguese and English. She currently has ten English projects set for release in 2019 with artists such as DJ Khaled, Madonna, Rita Ora, and Camila Cabello.

3. Gunna

Giphy

This Atlanta native popped up on my radar late this year. Gunna is a new rapper in the mainstream music that's been doing mixtapes for the last five years. He's featured on many albums with his fellow rap artists and was recently on the Creed 2 Soundtrack. He's released his joint mixtape with Lil Baby, Drip Harder, this past fall and is planning to release a follow up next summer in 2019.

4. Billie Eilish

Giphy

Billie Eilish is only seventeen and is breaking barriers and rules in the music game. She was discovered on Tumbler and released her first two albums at sixteen, signed to Interscope Records, made her first music video and went on her first headlining tour all before here seventeenth birthday this year. She has another tour set for 2019 and planning to release her third album as well as several musical collaborations in the works.

5. Black Pink

Giphy

Black Pink popped onto the scene this year in the wave of K-POP artists and groups. They went viral with their single DDU-DU and dropped a collaboration with Dua Lipa, "Kiss And Make Up" for her album. They release her EP this summer and embarked on a South Asian tour that sold out at every stop. They're to not only release another album in 2019 but also drop individual projects throughout the year.

6. 6LACK

Giphy

Another Atlanta native that's become a local and national favorite. 6LACK has made his name and music known this year. The dropped his album East Atlanta Love Letter in September that featured Khalid, Future, and J.Cole. 2019 is planned to be a busy year for the Atlanta rapper as he plans to do a national tour and release a follow-up EP to his album.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

Creating your schedule for the upcoming semester can be an exciting process. You have the control to decide if you want to have class two-days a week or five-days a week. You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
