Artist Spotlight: Bonfires

The pop/rock scene has seen it's fair share of talented artists but there are none quite like Bonfires. Hailing from Chicago, IL, Bonfires combines sounds of emo, indie and pop rock in their music. The band is comprised of four members, Brad Harvey, Nathan Thompson, Kyle Grzejka, and Kevin Provencher.

Over the past few years, the boys have each been in and out of bands trying to find their place in the music world. When they connected they felt as though each member brought something different to the table and they were ready to embark on their own musical journey. In 2014 they began to release music under the name Bonfires.

In July 2016, the band released their newest EP, A Reason To Get Home. This new release from the band just shows how talented they really are. The songs on this EP delivers lyrics that truly hook you and leave you wanting more. Not only are they talent musicians, but this band also prides itself on the connection they make with the people who support them. On their website, they said that they base their inspiration on the connections that they make with their fans.

"A band that gets their inspiration through fan connection, Bonfires strive to make people feel something in their music. Both lyrically and actively, Bonfires are hoping to harbor a community around them. They write songs to make kids feel less alone. The band speaks to their passion for building a two-way street of interaction and connection."

I got the chance to see this band live back in November and I was so impressed with the connections that they formed with new and old fans before, during and after their set.

This band is making an impact on the music scene and you won't want to miss out on them. Make sure you check out Bonfires if they hit a city near you. You can also check out their latest EP, A Reason To Get Home on iTunes.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
