Recently, I finished a book called "An Artist of the Floating World" written by Kazuo Ishiguro. It is novel written from the perspective of a Japanese man who was an artist during WWII and it gives an insight of what that era of Japan was like and how certain actions can change the world forever. Going through flashbacks and present time we learn about a life changed and life that keeps learning after a pivotal time in history.
Kazuo Ishiguro shows themes of arranged marriages, the changing roles, and respectability of women and elders since 1945. It goes through the life of an artist of the war and the changing of effects of the westernized society of Japan. The bool is a philosophical masterpiece that shows no matter how old you are, society and change waits for no one. It teaches valuable lessons of dealing with change and acceptance.
If you're looking for a book that will make you think about society and your life at hand, this the book for you. I highly recommend this book because it will be a learning experience and highly beneficial to how you see yourself and society from different points of view. It is also informational about post-war Japan. If you enjoy a book with deep, philosophical meaning then this book is the one for you. I really enjoyed it and I hope you will too.
