Halloween Costumes: Expectations Vs. Reality

It’s that time of year again, crisp fall air, pumpkin spice everything, cute sweaters with boots. Halloween is right around the corner, and it’s time every girl tries to get as creative as possible for the “best costume ever.” Sadly, we as girls have high expectations for everything and when it comes to costumes our ideas are just as high. Here’s some funny yet true Expectations Vs. Reality when it comes to picking our hot little costumes:

Expectation: “DIY Costumes are so much more original.”

Reality: So, you spend a few hours avoiding your paper due tomorrow to search pintrest for ideas on an awesome DIY costume. Spending hours the next day trying to piece together your costume, while trying to study the picture of the girl who looks absolutely perfect on Pinterest, you look in the mirror with disappointment. Nothing comes out the exact way we think it will on Pinterest, just like their recipes we all always say we want to try but fail at miserably.

Expectation: “I ordered it online, super cheap and cute! Just waiting for it to come.”

Reality: you’ll spend the next few weeks constantly checking your email for your tracking number and always checking your mailbox. Considering the great price you got on your costume, it’s probably from somewhere far away and could take weeks to come. But, you swear it’s going to be perfect. So it arrives, two days before your Halloween party. It’s atrocious. The material. The size. The fit. ALL WRONG. You’re better off just spending the extra money and time buying a costume in person and getting it that day or wearing all black and throwing on some cat ears!

Expectation: “Let’s match it will be so fun”

Reality: Whether you’re planning to go as a duo or a group costume, you will run into plenty of disagreements. Your boyfriend will most likely hate the idea of going as the typical couple costume that everyone else does, and will most likely refuse to take cute pictures of you two matching. You’ll spend hours with your friends debating in your group message of what you should be, how you should be it and why your idea is better than the rest. This will just result in your costume being another basic thing that other basic groups of girls do every Halloween.

What Jason Derulo said back in 2010, it’s probably better when it comes to Halloween to just ride SOLO. This Halloween put on the costume that reflects the fun person you are, the costume you feel sexy and comfortable in, the one that you know you’ll have a good night in! Who cares what everyone else is doing, DO YOU.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
