You are currently reading this article because it popped up on your social media feed. Or, maybe, a friend sent you the link because they thought it was interesting. Somehow, some way, this article has found your eyes and you are reading it and interpreting the words and what they mean.

But what do they mean, exactly? They might not mean the same thing to me as they do to you, but these words do, in fact, have meaning. And the farther along you get in this article, and the more you think about what you are reading, the more this article makes sense.

I was watching a video the other day, and it was a video that struck a chord with me on a personal level. Now, I’m sure you’ve all seen a video like this before. And I just thought to myself: “Huh. That’s pretty interesting.” And as I thought about that video more, the more that it resonated with me, and the more it had an impact on the way I watched the next video.

Studies have shown that approximately 10% of the world’s population is left-handed. Which means that a certain percentage of those who read this article will scroll with their left hand instead of their right hand, but more people will read this article and scroll with their right.

At this point in the article, I would like to pause and point out that I have not gotten to my thesis statement yet. I have not imparted on you any particular set of skills that will benefit you in your future, and I have not dropped some preposterous facts on you that will cause you to question the way in which you live. All I have done so far is tell you what you can expect in this article, that it has meaning, and that I know, most likely, how you are reading this article.

I would also like to take a moment to quote one of the greatest minds in all of history: “The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.” That is a quote from Socrates. He’s a pretty smart guy, and what he has to say here is really important to think about.

Humans have something special about them, and that is the ability to reason. You, as a more than likely rational human being reading this article, would reason that as the farther you read, the more likely that as you got to the end, I would bold a theme or italicize important information to take away from my article. That’s the logical side of your brain.

However, I have tricked your brain into thinking that this article is about nothing by putting those most important words at the top of my article. When, in fact, this article does have a point to it.

Thank you for reading.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
