The Art Of Skipping Class

Just kidding mom, I always go to class

As an average college student, I have skipped many a classes over the years. Some may think it’s easy to just skip a class, and to those people I say there’s so much more to it than that.

There are several factors that come into play when deciding to skip class, and all factors must be considered before making your decision.

First things first, is it really that important?

Now, When I say important I mean is it important for your major/what you plan to do with the rest of your life. It is important to only skip the classes that really have no effect on you in any way, shape, or form (Mom if you're reading this I've never skipped class). You can miss a lecture of Philosophy, because if you think about it is anyone really even there?

Second, make sure you have a killer excuse.

When coming up with your excuse to email your professor it is important to keep it short and sweet. Don't try and blow them away with some Chronicles of Narnia type story. Something as simple as "I have a migraine" or "I had a meeting" or "The apes have finally taken over" will do nicely.

Third, make sure you have a buddy system

Yes, skipping class and doing what you want is something you didn't have the freedom to do in high school, but it is important that in your absence you have a comrade in the class to take the notes you missed. However, use caution when picking your friend to take notes. Make sure this person does not have a habit of skipping classes as well, otherwise you are both screwed and may God have mercy on your soul. There is nothing worse than not getting notes you missed in class...other than actually going to class.

Fourth, be conscious of any assignments/tests you may be missing when skipping.

This is college and as everyone knows that means there's a lot of crap going on in class. You could miss one class and be screwed for a week because of what you missed. Also, make sure you know your syllabus so you are not missing any tests/ know when your tests are coming. I'm speaking from personal experience because I have skipped classes (no I haven't mom) and missed important assignments and it has bit me in the butt (but I always pull it off because I'm a legend).

I hope this post may help my other college friends, and the youngsters out there, the next time it comes to skipping a class.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
