The Art Of Perseverance

Because hurry up and wait is getting so old.

We are all familiar with the phrase, "if at first, you don't succeed, try try try again." This phrase is believed to have been coined by author Thomas H. Palmer but has gained so much recognition that it has now been made into songs, part of various stories, and a motto many live their life by. Why is this phrase so popular? It could be that it's something everyone needs to hear from time to time.

It is so easy for us to get down on our luck and in turn get down on ourselves. We may feel as if we try so hard and get minimal results if any. The frustration can bog us down to the point where we don't want to do anything, especially try again. But, we must. We must continue to persevere in the face of opposition.

A wise lady I know told me in a recent conversation, "I think there is something to be said for perseverance. I believe the universe rewards people for their constant efforts." I may not have gotten her wording perfectly, but it inspired me.

I so easily get down on myself and my circumstances. I am internally impatient when it comes to wanting to see the results of something I've been so dedicated to achieving. I want to see said results immediately. I believe everyone has experienced this kind of desire.

Yet, instant gratification isn't always satisfying. Sometimes, most times, good things are worth the wait. If you're waiting for a change, a chance, or a dream to come true--don't give up quickly or easily. Fight tirelessly for what you want and stay humble...good things will come.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
