For the past year I’ve been pouring my soul into a career I haven't started yet.
“Art is a hobby not a career”
However if you think about it, shouldn’t all careers also be your hobby?
if we work 9-5 everyday for almost 50 years from the time we turn 18 until the time we turn 65 (give or take a few years) Ultimately by that understanding we are at work longer than we are at home during waking hours.
Some people want to buy a home by the time they're 25, have children and get married while working a 9-5 job they don’t bat an eye over.
But for nearly 50 years I don’t think I could stomach a little office building, or a dining room of a 3 star restaurant, just getting by on cumulative tips.
So yes, I expect the exasperated sigh when I tell you I’m a fine art major, or that I work a gallery job. I expect for you to roll your eyes when I tell you this is what I want to do with the rest of my life because ultimately-
“Art is a hobby not a career”
But why can’t it be both?
