I've always been a big fan of incense. I like the therapeutic idea behind it, like burning a stick called Goddess when I want confidence, or lighting Cleaning Powers when it's time to sort through my pile of clothes has some sort of magical effect on my mood. And it does... it's not just the smell that makes me light-hearted for a bit, it's also the feeling that something special is diffusing into the air and cleansing it of negative energy.

Many people buy aromatherapy products for the smell and probably don't know the majestic healing powers behind certain scents. In a recent article, I wrote about how smoking specific herbs can have positive mental health benefits. The same is true for smelling certain scents, hence the term aromatherapy. If you've ever just bought a lavender or Patchouli scent because you enjoyed it, you should know what else you are getting from your purchase! You are allowing another means of relaxation into your home.

Lavender is a great one for feeling calm or less stressed. Thyme is a great scent for doing homework, as it improves concentration and boosts memory. Long day? Frankincense rejuvenates you from the deep depths of exhaustion.

While my personal preference when it comes to aromatherapy is to use incense, there are other ways to incorporate it into your life. Essential oils are just as loved. Candles and atomizers are perfect if you want a softer touch. Even keeping the herbs themselves out also works wonders.

Next time you buy an herb or scent, check out its healing properties! You might be surprised just how much it works.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
