Last year, the Wildcats finished 16th overall in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA). This season, the team hopes to once again make a long run into ACHA Nationals. With the team's strong reputation always proving the Cats to be a tough contender over the years, this past summer resulted in the impressive recruitment of eleven new players. The Cats acquired three defensemen, seven forwards and a goalie, most whom stem from hockey “hotbeds” around the country.
Wildcat hockey, along with the sport of hockey in general, has also grown in popularity over the years here out West. Beginning Friday, October 24th, the Wildcats will host Liberty University at the Tucson Convention Center for the home opener. The weeks following include big match-ups including ASU, Michigan State and the University of Oklahoma. Despite last year's ACHA rank of 16th in the country, the Wildcats' considerable recruiting and returning talent leaves the only plausible option to be an upward climb in the rankings. Under the leadership and experience of new coach, Chad Berman, the Cats hope to come out on top against the powerhouse rival Arizona State.
Whether it be a brotherhood event or a group of friends, for the price of $5--not to mention cheap beer--you can come support your local team on Friday nights and experience the fast pace and excitement of Arizona Wildcat hockey.
