After a disappointing end to last season, ASU started the new year with an explosive offensive performance. The Sun Devils beat Kent State by a score of 30-7! Although the opponent wasn't a top tier program, ASU Freshman Jayden Daniels was making his first collegiate debut. That's usually a lot to ask for a freshman as the competition is much more intense. However, Jayden Daniels showed last Thursday that he can compete with the big boys as he threw for 284 yards and had two touchdowns to go with it, according to an article from the PAC 12 Network. This was a much-anticipated debut for the freshman as he came out of high school as a four-star recruit and was ASU's highest-ranked recruit in the 2019 class, according to 247sports.com.
I was also quite impressed with how ASU running back Eno Benjamin looked in the season opener. He looks a lot more explosive from behind the offensive line and more flexible than last year. I would expect him to have a big year as they will rely on him heavily to keep the defense on their toes. In fact, Eno Benjamin hurdled over a Kent State defender during the first half of the football game! It was fun to see the crowd go crazy after an amazing start to the season after a disappointing end to last season with a bowl game loss against Fresno State. I am looking forward to next week when we go head to head with Sacramento State University. My prediction for this game is that Jayden Daniels will have another impressive performance because Sacramento State is not an elite football program and they are not even an FBS college football team. It will be interesting to see if the ASU defense can have as many defensive stops as they did last Thursday when they even caused multiple fumbles throughout the game. There is potential for this young team and I am excited to see how the rest of the season pans out.
