Halloween: A day that people get to dress up in costumes of fairies, characters and of course the living dead.
I was asking the Lord what I should write, after all it is the week of Halloween, but He lead me to the perfect chapter, Luke 7:11-16.
This truthful story is about how Jesus raised a young man from the grave. Jesus went to the town of Nain and when He and his disciples were approaching the gates, a coffin was being carried out. As the mother of the deceased was crying, Jesus' heart went out to her, so he stopped and said, "Don't cry" (NIV v.13). Jesus went to the coffin, touched it and said, "Young man, I say to you, get up" (NIV v. 14). The young man sat up and began to talk; he was risen and alive.
I'm sharing this story with you, because Jesus did the same thing for us, for you. Jesus literally died and was brought back to life for you. He chose to die for you, and He chose to live for you.
I find this story so fascinating and gripping, because throughout the Bible the act of arising is often presented. That is the point of the gospel! When Jesus was crucified and then risen, He made salvation and spiritual resurrection possible for us.
With one sentence and one word, He has made us alive. Jesus comforted us and said "Don't cry" and then spoke truth and life into us. Jesus said to us, "I say to you, get up", and through that very sentence we are risen and alive.
1 Peter 5:10 says, "And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, complete and steadfast" (NIV).
You see, God has made that promise to us and He has never broken a promise. When we truly live our lives in accordance with Christ then that is when the whole truth of the gospel soakes in. When we accept the truth that we are risen and alive through Jesus then we cannot help but live for Him.
Something changes inside of us when we proclaim the truth of our deliverance. We are new creations through Christ, and we cannot help but proclaim the truth of Jesus, so that others may experience that deliverance as well.
If you take one thing away from this article, I ask that it would be this: you are risen and you are alive through Christ. Accept your deliverance and now live. Live to show love and to speak truth.
