I wouldn't really say that I'm a huge fan of Ariana Grande. I occasionally watched her as Cat on "Victorious" when I was younger and listened to her hit singles when they came out. I knew Grande was an amazing singer but I never really sat down and listened to one of her albums all the way through. When she announced that her album "Sweetener" was coming out, I thought I'd give her a try. When the album dropped and I started streaming it, I didn't really know what to expect, but by the end, I realized I really enjoyed this album.
Out of the 15 songs on the album, I chose my personal top five.
"the light is coming"
I really enjoyed listening to this song. Between this song and Bed, which Ariana and Nicki Minaj recorded for Nicki's album "Queen," I like this one sooo much better. From the first few beats, I was already bobbing my head, and Nicki's rap verse was killer.
"God is a woman"
This was the second single to come off of the album so I had already heard the song before, but it's a really good song in my opinion. The beats and instruments meshed very well together and the choir sounded AMAZING.
"Sweetener"
This ended up being my absolute favorite song on the album. The piano at in the first few seconds meshed great with her soft voice and when the beat dropped, I found myself saying "OK ARI." Yeah, it may sound like she's playing with a Bop It, (only '90s kids know what I'm talking about) but the song was still a bop. (See what I did there?)
"No tears left to cry"
Yeah, so I may be a little basic with putting BOTH of the singles from this album on my list but hey, both of the songs were bops and deserve a spot on the list in my opinion.
Get well soon
Now some of you may ask why this song is on my top five because the lyrics kinda sound a little corny, but Ariana did an amazing job with this song. According to the Cosmopolitan, Ariana talked with Beats 1's Ebro Darden and said that the song was written after the bombing at her concert in Manchester. It's about people helping each other through their anxieties and fears, and bringing light to mental health. I applaud Ariana for spreading awareness for things like this.
I promise you won't regret adding these songs to your next playlist!
