Are You Like A Turtle?

Fast underwater and slow exposed.

Are You Like A Turtle?
Tybee Island

Lately I've had some time to think about random things such as how our lives have similarities with turtles. Now you're probably thinking that I'm crazy, but hear me out.

Throughout our lives we make ourselves at home, like a turtle shell, whether that's our actual home, a fantasy home, or something else entirely. We make ourselves comfortable and take refuge when things get tough, scary, or uncomfortable.

In our lives we often thrive in our comfort zones. Much like a turtle underwater, we are in our element, fast, protected, comfortable and can predict a majority of the events in our lives. However when we are exposed, out of water, out of our element, suddenly we are slow. Like we're trudging through muck. Suddenly the painful events become even longer, the trials seem even more difficult, and the dangers in our lives increase. Let's face it, we are a lot like turtles, especially in our walk with the Lord.

When we are in the water, that is when the center of our lives and focus are on God. Life is easier and everything seems to fall into place.

On the flip-side, being exposed is when our focus is on earthly things. We fall into the traps of sin so easily and often get stuck in them causing seemingly endless pain, trials, and hardships. Little do we know or acknowledge during these times is that just on the other side of the road or trial, is the flowing water of God's Grace and comfort. All we have to do is trust in Him and continue marching on.

11 Things All Call Center Workers Can Empathize With Better Than Anyone
Youtube

This semester I started my journey as a member of my University's Alumni Outreach Team. This means a lot of things, but primarily it means that I get to make phone calls to parents and alumni two nights a week to update contact information, collect things like business cards and volunteer hours, and even ask for money.
