Are You Like Jess From 'New Girl'?

Whether you watch the show or not, you might find that you're more like Jess than you think. If you are awkward, funny, outgoing, have a solid group of friends, and are just straight up cool then you're most likely the "Jess" in your friend group.

1. You spot a cute guy.

When you are casually drinking your morning coffee and catching up on some reading, bam! You can't help but start to drool and awkwardly stare at the 6'4 tall blonde that just walked in.

2. You sing to yourself.

Whether you're singing in the shower, or singing in a public restroom, you know that eventually you will never be alone. Someone is bound to join in.

3. You call yourself weird.

Your guy friend stares at you and your best friend from across the room while you all are making weird noises at each other…sorry that's our form of communication.

4. You can be heartless at times.

Every girl can admit that they can be heartless. "This world revolves around me, not you."

5. You can sometimes be a little judgmental.

You see that girl that is hanging all over her boyfriend of a week. I'm staring at you because I'm slightly confused and slightly jealous.

6. It's possible you don't always make the right decisions.

Always asking your closest friends to make a decision for you because you're obviously too indecisive. "Do I stay up late, eat this bowl of ice cream, skip class in the morning, or do all three?"

7. You wonder why people think like they do...

Your friend comes to you and tells you she is having relationship issues. She proceeded to tell you that her boyfriend hasn't texted back in a whole five minutes.

8. You are the life of the party.

You walk into a room and want people to recognize you have arrived. "The party obviously doesn't start until I walk in."

9. You end up in the wrong place during serious events.

You just heard how Becky actually was with her ex-boyfriend last night, but then her current boyfriend is your best friend. If there was a table I probably would crawl under it and never come out.

10. You try to avoid confrontation however you can.

Your friends get together for a nice and quiet movie night, but all of a sudden your friend starts nitpicking at you for something you did last week. The only thing keeping you from speaking are all those cookies you're shoveling into your mouth.

11. You don't always feel 100 percent about your appearance.

While putting on your spring break swimsuit, you ask your friends how you look. The looks on their faces reveal to you that it is not the right one. "I actually lost a whole pound last week so you can stop staring."

12. No matter what, you always have your friends.

Through thick and thin, you always have your group of friends that you can be weird and awkward with, and they still love you unconditionally.

The new girl doesn't always have to be the one who doesn't fit in. No, the new girl can be the girl who fits in because people like her distinctive personality. The "Jess" in any friend group is the one you will remember having the best of adventures and memories with. So…if you related to all these, then congratulations! People should feel honored to have you as a friend.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
