Thoughts On The European "No Makeup" Makeup Trend

While makeup trends in America come and go, there is always one trend that is consistent among European women: the no-makeup makeup look. You've probably heard of it, the simplest of the simple looks that is effortless and easy to apply. These women choose this as their go-to look because it makes them feel chic, classy and young looking. Instead of caking products on, it is preferred to have natural skin shining through.

It is not the objective to cover up everything in Europe. In their opinion, if every aspect of your face is done up and altered in someway, it sets the wrong example. It implies women feel the need to hide behind the face they have painted on or are pretending to be something they are not. This may be true for some people, but the amount of makeup someone applies can also be seen as something that raises their confidence. While Americans may feel insecure about birth marks or freckles and feel the need to make them invisible, the Europeans embrace the differences that set them apart and feel no need to layer concealer after concealer to hide their flaws.

Enhancing. It is all about enhancing your natural beauty to them. Less foundation, concealer, drawn-on eyebrows and over the top lashes. Instead of contouring, they prefer balance. Tinted lip-balm with some eyeliner, or a neutral lip with a little bit of blush. There is more of an emphasis on skincare rather than layering on products to produce an appearance of clear skin. For example, Bioderma is a rather favorite skincare brand among the Europeans.

How do you do your makeup? Do you think the European trend of no-makeup makeup should be integrated into the United States more?

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.

I've known you your entire life. More than likely I held you in the first three days of it and at least one of us cried. Cousins are truly one of the best things in the world and while sometimes I complain about how many people crowd Grandma's living room on Christmas Eve, I wouldn't trade you all anything.

You are my best friends, the only people who can understand what it's like on Thanksgiving, and you are the spunkiest people I have ever met. But you as so so young, most of you are just now starting your adventures in the public education system. I mean, I'm so very young too. I'm not married, I don't have children, heck, I just started my adult life, but I do want to give you what little advice I have. My dears, these are the things I want you to know.
