Stop Saying 'I'm Bored' And Do Something About It!

There's so much you could be doing right now.

This is to anyone who ever gets bored often.

Go do something. As a person who is almost always busy, there are a million things out there that I wish I could do. I want to learn so much, but I know I will never have the time. Stop sitting around complaining about how much you wish there was something to do. You're future is in your own hands. Next time you find yourself vegging out in front of the TV and wishing there was something more interesting, think about what else you could be doing. Can you play an instrument? Do you want to know another language? How about knit? Maybe you could get into gardening?

Whatever it is, I am certain that there is something out there that you know nothing about that is calling your name, but you can't hear it over your own complaints about how there is nothing in this world.

Research something if you want to. I know that seems so ridiculous. Why would you go out of your way to do research a topic if you aren't even going to get graded on it? Well, maybe you do something in your life that isn't for the grade or the promotion. Maybe just for once, you do something because you think there might be something to it that you actually like. Can you try to memorize the pattern to solving a Rubik's Cube?

I don't want to hear, "Well I played an instrument in middle school, but I stopped because I got bored." You didn't get bored. It got hard. That's why you stopped. Don't pretend that whatever it is that once interested you is now just boring. There is no such thing as being perfect. There is always some way to entertain yourself. Try the next level of something. This applies to everything. Do something different, if that's your problem.

Maybe the different thing just isn't as different as you might think.

You wouldn't keep playing Tee-ball because that's how you started. No, you'd move on up to baseball eventually. Maybe you do play an instrument but you think it's boring because you haven't tried something new with it. Lots of instruments sound awesome with some very contemporary music. Push yourself for once in your life. I am sick of people telling me that they are tired of doing the same thing over and over again.

There are so many things out there in this world.

I personally wish I could have learned a sport when I was younger. Now I don't have the time to take up a sport because I am so busy with school and my other interests. There will always be a part of me that wishes I would have put in the effort to see it through that I got used to a regular type of exercise. But now here I am, a student who spends all of her time writing until the ends of the Earth. I love what I do, and I do have other hobbies. It's just that I can't fit everything into one lifetime. Next time you find yourself moping around the house all day, why don't you make something of it?

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
