Are Personal Trainers Worth The Money?

“Why would you ever spend so much money on a personal trainer?”

A question that I have gotten all too much in the past few years.

A question that is based on the assumption that paying someone to torture you and tell you what to eat is absolutely ridiculous.

It’s an assumption made by people who have judged me for spending my hard-earned money on someone when I can merely do it myself.

Well, I’m here to tell you exactly why I have chosen in the past to pay someone…because what I received was way more than just a diet and training regime from these people who were, so-called, “just in it for the money” as many of you would say.

Life lesson #1: One of the first things I learned from having a trainer was, “life is as good as you make it.” This applies to the way we treat our health and, essentially, our bodies. My trainers would basically give me a reality check and bang me back into realizing just how important it is to be on top of taking care of my body. It was a self-realization of understanding that we are good as we work to be.

Life lesson #2: If you’re going to do something half-ass, don’t do it all. Excuse my language, but that’s just exactly what it is. My trainers would instill in me a sense of desire to succeed. They taught me not to be mediocre, but exceptional. Do you think this just applies to our health? Absolutely not.

Life lesson #3: In a world where everyone is so concerned with the number on the scale, I can promise you that my trainers were one of the ones who whacked those thoughts out of my head. They taught me what it means to be HEALTHY and not skinny. They taught me that health is more important than being obsessed with a number on an electronic device.

Life lesson #4: Never settle for less than what you are worth. This applies to not just the way I treat my body, but also the way others treat me. When you finally realize what you are worth, you tend to stop settling for anything less than that.

My trainers kicked my butt day in and day out. They trained me hard, made me want to throw up on some days, told me I could do more, tracked my workouts, planned my meals, had me send pictures of my meals, and even hear me out when I needed to vent. They have been people in my life that have come in for a season and have left a lasting impression forever. Although I do not have the ability to have a trainer anymore, I still carry on what they have taught me during the time I was their client and friend. So here’s a shout out to those who have been my trainers in the past and believed in me enough to teach me so much. And to everyone else, don't knock it before you try it.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
