What I've been jamming to so far this month

I’ve been slacking on articles lately. I only have been putting them out every two weeks instead of every week. Forgive me. It gives me more time to have inspiration for another article and plus work has been keeping me way busy. That’s what happens when you have 22 people on your caseload and you work every other weekend at another job. But what’s constant is me finding new music, I haven’t done a music article in a while, so I wanted to give you guys a glimpse into what I’ve been listening to lately.

  • 1)Anything and everything by Christina Novelli.
  • 2)Waterson – Davis
  • 3)So Special – Moana
  • 4)Those Days You Felt Alive – Spitalfield
  • 5)Californication –Syn Cole featuring Caroline Pennell

1) That’s not a song title, that’s saying that I’ve been listening to anything and everything by Christina Novelli. She’s a female DJ and does some collaboration with DJs like Gareth Emery and Craig Connelly. I’m currently listening to “Black Hole” with her and Craig Connelly. It’s fantastic!

2) Davis is a two-person girl/guy duo from Texas. I’ve only been listening to them for a couple days, but this song came on my Discover Weekly. I can’t stop listening to it. I went to their website because they’re a newer band hoping to find some lyrics, and I found them. They’re pictures of the lyrics written on pieces of notebook paper in all different kinds of calligraphy. I think little things like that are neat. Sorry.

3) These ladies are solid! I feel like I’ve been listening to them for a straight month! They’re a girl band, but not like a pop band. I don’t know how to describe their sound, but it’s cool! I know I’m using lots of explanation points, but I just am so excited that I found a girl band that I can be excited about! Another discovery from my Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify, but it gave me the live from Spotify House SXSW 2016. I usually don’t like live stuff, but it’s not too annoying. The lyrics have nothing in particular that means to me, I just like the song and their sound. Winterbreak is another good song.

4) How I missed these guys I’ll never know, but they’re great. They’re a pop-punk/rock group that I found through the Lead Singer Syndrome Podcast. Shane interviewed the lead singer a couple weeks/months ago and I’ve been listening to them for the past couple months. They really remind me of Sherwood, like the pop-punk feel that I haven’t heard in a while. It’s reassuring and even though they’re not a band anymore I can still appreciate their music.

5) Yes, this is a cover of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers song, but it’s SO GOOD. It’s a EDM cover of it, but it’s not at the same time. It still gives the vibe of RHCP, but in a new way. I just like this girl’s voice. It’s a nice change of pace. The only complaint I have is that they don’t sing the pre-chorus (First-born unicorn, hardcore soft porn,) but it’s alright. They even remix the guitar riff really well. I can’t really explain the sound; you would just need to listen to it for yourself.

I only gave you five songs/artists because quite frankly, this has been a rough and long two weeks, but at least I have music to help me get through it. You can find all these songs on YouTube or Spotify. Enjoy and hopefully I’ll be back with something better and more inspirational to write soon.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
