An Appreciation Letter To My Pets
Ryan McGuire

I have got two dogs and two cats and I love them all beyond anything. I am slightly biased towards one of the cats but that is because she has latched on to me and become my right-hand man in a sense.

They have all come at different stages of my life but I love them all the same. They all have their own personality, their own way of showing love, and their own way of being there for each other. Of course, I will include pictures, what kind of sappy pet article would it be without pictures? They are more than just pets, they are family.

Tess is the first of the bunch and she came around in 2005, a year after my first pup passed away. A purebred Tibetan Spaniel. The adorable apple head and soft ears give her that special look. She doesn't have the biggest personality but she is loyal and acts as a mom to the rest, even the cats. She is my dad's dog the most and refuses to be without him.

The next in line is Emma Blu, a purebred Ragdoll cat. The fluffiest fur and the bluest eyes you will ever see. Her personality balances out all the poof. She loves to be held like a baby and cuddled until she almost suffocates you. Also enjoys toilet water but is so fat she has to hang herself over the toilet.

She now belongs to my little brother and I am glad because now that he is a fifth grader like I was when we got her, her cuddles will come in handy. got her around 2008 on my birthday. My mom and Oma had to drive all the way to Chicago in a snowstorm to get her. The two know that they run that house given they been there the longest.

The next two came much later during 2013 and 2015 due to my persuasion skills. It all started with Nina. A rescue mom left over sitting in her box at Pet Smart. I bugged my mom to at least see the cat. She did. A week later, Nina came home with us.

Nina was only one to two years old when we got her but she had babies and everyone adopted them but not her. I knew when I saw her, she would be mine. A Tabby with gorgeous markings, her personality is that of a kitten and mom all mixed in one. She is by my side no matter what and shows her unconditional love. She enjoys eating catnip leaves.

Last but not least, we have Augustus (Auggie), the first boy of the bunch, the unknown breed. A rescue as well, he has Pomeranian and in my opinion, Border Collie in him. He loves everyone he meets, wants the attention from all the ladies at the park, and looks good in a red sweater. He knows when we are sick and won't leave our side.

These animals are my everything and I have no idea what I would do without them. As any pet owner would say, it is an amazing feeling to come home to them after a long day. The unconditional love you have for them and they have for you is a bond that cannot be broken. Through all the good and all the bad, they are the constant. Each has their own personality and perks that makes them each special. Thank you for being the best and nothing less.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
