Doesn’t it feel good when a stranger passing by smiles at you for no reason? Doesn’t it enlighten your heart when a stranger asks you how you are doing and wishes you to have a good day? These small deeds that we do in life matter a lot. It is in fact, these small deeds bring life into our souls.

A couple of weeks ago, I got a message from one of my old friends from school. We had not talked with each other for what seemed like an eternity. We talked what was going on in our lives. It really made me feel wonderful. We used to be best buddies at some time. Yes time flew and we chose different paths, and I won't lie, we completely forgot about each other for some time. And that short little "Hey! How's life going?" overwhelmed me.

Small things do matter.

It matters whether you get prompt replies from your friends on Facebook. It matters when you are waitressing and a customer is so humble and polite to you. It matters when a stranger holds that door for you. It matters when a small kid gives you a flying kiss. These little deeds that we witness every day in life carry a great significance.

The world is a whirlpool of optimism as well as negativity. It truly depends on how you want to perceive things. A positive attitude attracts positive thoughts and positive people in your life. So, let's learn to appreciate every single thing in our lives that we might have ignored considering it small.

A small gem is worth collecting rather than larger stones.

We have too little time to keep ourselves occupied with hatred and bitterness. The past is far gone and we don't know what the tomorrow holds. So, let's make our present count! You are breathing, you have food on your plate, you have a smartphone to read these words. Your life is far better than you think it is.

So, let's trade smiles for smiles.

Let's be grateful to God that he didn't forget to wake us up. Let's be thankful that we have important people in our lives who care for us. Let's embrace that we are moving forward in our lives. Let's not forget how we reached where we are now. Let's make every single day of our lives worthwhile!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
