I'm currently a junior in undergrad. It's officially that time to apply and get everything in order to prepare for law school. Anyone who is anticipating applying and attending law school knows how busy they can become throughout the process of applying. Applying to law school factors in many things such as your LSAT score, resume, and GPA.
The LSAT is one of those many things keeping students busy. On top of an already extensive school course load, students applying to law school have to prepare to take the LSAT. One of the many ways of preparing for the LSAT is through prep classes offered. Most non-pre-law students do not understand how someone can be taking 15 hours a semester of regular college classes and then after going to two, four hour long LSAT prep classes every week. The scores on this test help to determine law school acceptance and scholarships.
School, or your undergraduate degree will keep you busy as well. Keeping your GPA up is a must when hoping to attend law school. This is not the time to slip up on grades or not go to class. Focusing on classes that will aid you in law school is also taken into consideration. Going to your professors' office hours can also help build a good relationship between student and professor. Showing interest and doing well in a class can help you earn a recommendation letter from a professor.
Resumes are also something students wanting to attend law school have been working on for a long time. How many organizations can I join? What clubs should I be a member of? How can I help the community? What internships and job opportunities should I take advantage of? When is the next career fair?
Choosing what law school you want to attend can be a big decision to make. Tour and visit the campus. Talk to admissions counselors, teachers, and students. See what courses that school has to offer. If you want to join clubs and organizations, see which ones that campus has that you can become involved with.
To the friends and family of a pre-law student, stop asking if they really want to go to school for three more years. The answer is yes. Understand when they have to stay up longer to study and can't go out. Yes, they have to take a test that is based on how to take the test. The work and time are beyond worth it. Let each student chase their dreams.
