Applying to the Disney College Program as told by Disney Characters

Clearly I am already in Disney mode.

Applying to the Disney College Program as told by Disney Characters

As many people in my life know, I have recently accepted a position with the Disney College Program at Disney World. I couldn't be happier about it and can't wait for this wonderful journey to begin in January. With that being said, the application process has a lot of ups and downs. From waiting for the applications to come out to psyching yourself out thinking you didn't get in. It was stressful but I am so happy I took the risk. So, here are some Disney characters to help you understand just how I felt during this whole process.

Step 1: Waiting for the applications to come out

I can't be the only one that had it marked on my calendar. Waiting for the application to come out is like wondering when your life will begin (Disney reference haha)

Step 2: Sending in your application and hoping you have all of the "qualifications"

Personally, I hate filling out applications because I never feel like I have enough to put down.

Step 3: Doing the online interview

I applied once before and did not get through this step. With that being said, this was the most stressful part for me. Not knowing if I would get cut so soon again drove me insane. Luckily they get back to you pretty quickly with the results.

Step 4: The dreaded phone interview

No matter what you're doing, you answer the phone. No matter your mood, you pretend to be in the best mood ever. Whatever it takes to make them like you.

Step 5: Waiting to hear back

Now I can't be the only one that totally didn't think I got in. I actually made myself forget about it at times so I wouldn't stress over it.

Step 6: Getting the Email

I got this email on what had started out a bad day. It ended pretty badly too however, the DCP vibes got me through it. I literally jumped out of bed and called my mom just to read the email out loud to her. I then jumped on my bed for a solid ten minutes even though I really shouldn't have.

Step 7: Officially accepting your offer

I've got to admit, paying the fee hurt a little bit but it will be totally worth it. Finally getting to post about it on social media was the best part. Luckily I had a really cute picture with Mickey to use.

Step 8: Realizing you have to leave your friends and family for an entire semester.

Now this is hands down the hardest part for me. The excitement is still there but the sadness is starting to creep in. I have never been so far away from everyone I love for so long. Homesickness will be a big issue for me in the beginning of the program. I can just already tell, but I hope as I make friends it gets better. I honestly can't wait to begin this amazing journey in the DCP!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
