After 13 years of continuous growth, Apple has lost revenue for the first time.
According to the New York Times, half of Americans have an iPhone. I even know a friend that doesn't even have a texting plan, because she relies solely on iMessage which only uses data. Personally I am Apple obsessed. I have more Apple products that I care to admit. My boyfriend and I sometimes joke that we are opposites because I like Mac’s and he loves PCs. As you can see I love Apple, and most of America loves Apple so what happened?
The same article goes into saying that iPhones have lost 16 percent of sales in the last quarter. The iPhone SE that came out in March might be the reason for these issues. The first issue is that itcame out at the wrong timing. The launch of the new phone came out too late in the second quarter to help Apple at all. I believe that the second issue is the iPhone SE is too similar to the iPhone 4S. It doesn't have the slim qualities of the iPhone 6 range, and for some people looks are what matters. Apple also reports a drop in iPad sales as well. But the company is hopeful that the new iPad Pro will gain sales throughout the next quarter.
I do believe that Apple is still the best. With their clean lines, thin products, services like Apple Music and the iCloud database, they steal my heart. However, sometimes new ideas don't work, and don't catch on as quickly as people like. That being said, I do not think Apple is going downhill, I think they are learning a lesson. I think that they are learning that there is a balance between functionality and hype. Hype being most of the millennial automatically buying their products for the looks and to fit into the status quo. Functionality being how quickly a device works, and how easy it is to use. We can all see that Apple products are easy to use, my mom learned how to text, and use her iPhone super quickly after having a Droid Smartphone for two years (Yes, she can use emojis). I believe that Apple will come back to its new creative and new products after this test, that showed them people want something that looks new, and is even easier to use.
Yes, I might be biased because my iMac is my baby, and yes I do have an iPhone, but at the same time, I didn't just pick it because I am a “basic white girl.” I picked an iPhone to edit my pictures, make graphics for projector screens and at the same time being able to organize it. I picked an iPhone to be able to link up to my other devices, so when I lose my TV remote, I’m not crying. I picked Apple because I like their features, not just for hype. Why did you pick the phone you have?
