Ah, yes another discussion on the battle of brands. Coca-Cola vs Pepsi, Microsoft Xbox vs Sony Playstation, McDonald's vs Burger King and, of course, iPhone vs Android.
Now I know there are probably hundreds and hundreds of articles, blogs, website and so on discussing why one product is better than the other. However, this article will discuss my perspective as an avid Samsung Galaxy user switching over to an iPhone for the first time ever.
A Little Bit of Background
Apple and Samsung have fought against one another for some time now, the feud even went as far as to Apple suing Samsung for stealing their phone's design.
Apple suing Samsung for copying a design is very ironic considering Apple "borrows" from Samsung continuously. In 2013, Samsung introduced consumers to the Galaxy Gear and 2 years later Apple presented the Apple Watch. In 2014, Samsung released the Galaxy S5 with a new waterproof feature. Again, two years later Apple's iPhone 7 and 7 Plus is waterproof. In 2015, Samsung introduces the Galaxy S6 with a dual-edge display. Recently there's been hints and rumors of the iPhone 8 possibly having a curved screen. You can clearly see the pattern here, Samsung creates a new feature on their phone and two years later iPhone decides to incorporate it into their design. I was quite the defender of Samsung.
My life as a Samsung Android User
"Hey, do you have an Andriod charger?" "No." This is the most common urgh I've had as an Andriod user. Every single time I've left my Samsung Galaxy S3 and later, Galaxy S6 dual-edge universal charger at home, there was no way I was going to get that phone charged. This was even a common occurrence when I had the Galaxy S5. No one I knew had a universal charger. Not Uber drivers, no gas station clerks, not even my friend who literally had drawers of every charger known to man yet wasn't able to pull out an Android charger. Now for loyal iPhone users reading this, you may think "what's the big deal?" The big deal is that Samsung Galaxy's battery SUCKS. And no, I don't mean it slowly drains to a mere 60 percent, I mean when you have three apps open and then look back at your battery you might be on 39 percent if you're lucky. When I bought the Galaxy S6 dual-edge screen I knew I wasn't going to be able to grab any regular case, I needed to get a chargeable Mophie Case. No offense to Mophie Cases, their product does as advertised and charges my phone, but it's very hard to customize a bulked up case. Other than charging issues, I wasn't able to join iPhone group chats, see certain emojis (all I'd get was an [X]), use certain gaming apps only available on iPhone, and of course, my favorite and I'm sure other Android users around the country have heard this question before, "Why don't you have an iPhone?"
Why I purchased the iPhone 7 Plus
Here it is. The iPhone 7 Plus in all it's glory. This is my first iPhone I've ever had. Now look, as a former Andriod user I don't just jump ship on a whim, I have to do a little digging to see what all the buzz was about. Now what really impressed me was the durability of the iPhone 7 itself. It was all thanks to the YouTuber TechRex. The guy would submerge the iPhone 7 in sulfuric acid, pour molten lava, pure gold, drop it from space and other crazy sh*t! If you cuddle your iPhone every night and whisper sweet nothing's into it's speaker before you go to sleep this channel is not for you. What impressed me about the iPhone was no matter what this guy did to the phone, the iPhone would turn on! And not just turn on to deliver a tearful good-bye, apps would work, the volume would still be functional, other than the appearance of the phone; shattered glass, burned up metal and cracks beyond cracks, the phone itself still worked. I know for certain that if I just dropped my Andriod without a case not only would the screen turn into a family-friendly jigsaw puzzle, the Andriod itself would be giving me the "Terminator 2 thumbs up" as it slowly erased everything I had and died.
My experience with the iPhone 7 Plus
Here's what I think of it so far. Remember this is my own personal opinion of the iPhone. Trust me, there's no endorsement. What I think of the iPhone 7 plus thus far is ... AMAZING! Yup, you've heard it here, from the guy that has had avoided the iPhone for 10 years, I see what all the hype is about. The resolution on the iPhone 7 Plus is astounding. High-definition pictures are beautiful and I can watch YouTube videos as if they were a DVD blue ray. I never have to be trepidatious when clicking on the 1080p quality on YouTube because iPhone makes it work effortlessly. With Andriod, I'd click on 1080p and wait and wait and wait for the video just to load. The seamlessness of switching between multiple apps has never been simpler. Just two clicks on the home button and I can see all the other apps open and jump into any I choose. Texting is more fun with a multitude of emojis and the auto-correct is smarter than your average bear. Now the one thing I'll give to Android is the swipe feature in texting. I am accustomed to swiping with messaging but I've started to familiarize myself with typing.
The camera is gorgeous. The auto-focus is state of the art. FORGET AUTO-FOCUS ON ANDROID. Holy sh*t try taking a simple picture in your hand with Andriod and you'll be trying to get that motherf*cker to focus for 30 minutes! With iPhone 7 Plus, the phone know's exactly what to focus on. It's only been a month since I've purchased the iPhone 7 Plus and the only bothersome thing about the phone is that you need an adapter for headphones but if you can purchase a wireless Bluetooth headphones it really doesn't matter. I finally understand why there are so many loyal Apple users because it is the better product.
In Conclusion
I've been a bit of a contrarian and never really purchased a product because "everyone was buying it!" I'd have to actually want it. With Android, I was comfortable. The minor annoyances were just that, minor. I wasn't using an Android because I hated iPhones, I basically saw iPhones as the new Malibu Stacy. The only difference between the Malibu Stacy from last year and this year is the fact that she's got a new hat. Similar with iPhone the next year it simply had a new feature.
My opinion has been changed dramatically. I can't wait for Samsung to come out with a new feature on their phone so I can wait the next two years in anticipation for the new iPhone.
