So Apple released the iPhone 7 specs today, and it looks like it's going to be another amazing phone, which isn't surprising. We've come to expect nothing less than perfection from Apple. However, they did make one change that made me absolutely furious.
Apple took away the headphone jack.
I know this was a rumor for a long time leading up to this release, but I am so disappointed that it actually went through. Don't get me wrong, I love Apple, I will always buy Apple, but this is just such a drastic thing Apple has done. Honestly, it might be the cockiest move I have ever seen from an organization.
Up until now, every smart phone has had the same headphone jack. That 3.5mm input where you listen to all your music. That has been a constant and, like I said, everyone uses it, for either headphones, aux cords or the like. Now Apple has gotten rid of this constant. They have made the iPhone 7 thinner, lighter, faster, and stronger. These are all great things, but they got rid of our constant and through it all in our faces.
What is going to happen to aux cords and wired headphones? Well, they're going to go extinct. Probably within the next 5 year everything will be wireless. This is where the cockiness of this move comes into play. Apple is SO sure that people will still buy their products that they decided to do one of the most unpopular moves ever. Were they worried that this might tank their market value? Not at all. Are they worried they won't sell as many phones? Not at all. Apple still thinks that they will be the king of the phone game, and they are right.
Honestly though, like I'm still going to buy the iPhone. I'm going to be so mad when I lose those crappy little headphones, and have to spend boatloads of money making sure I have all the bluetooth gear I need in order to always be able to play music, but I will still buy Apple. It's incredible. Apple did the same thing when they switched the lightning cables a couple years back. Everyone was so mad that they had to go and switch all their gear, but it stopped no one from buying Apple. That was a test run for Apple, they saw it succeed, and now they're pulling the real deal on us. One of the cockiest moves I have ever seen by a company, and I love every second of it. So much respect and hate for Apple.
