Gotta catch em' all!
Yes, you can see where this is going already, but I feel like I need to mention that I am the one of many adults that have now turned back time to my Grandpa's living room where I used to watch the Indigo League, stuffing my face with pretzels as I was singing the Pokemon theme song and holding my Bulbasaur pillow. I was that kid for a brief time, and yes, I was pretty satisfied.
Pokemon Go has been taking everyone in most age departments, by storm. I honestly was unsure of this game at first because I found out through friends that I should go Pokemon hunting with them. You see, I never had a Gameboy for a Nintendo system just because my family and I enjoyed the pleasures of SEGA Genesis and PS1. Anyway, I did have a few cards and some cards and I was a child in my perfect heaven with my games and TV show. I am fan girling because I really did like the show even though at some points the human emotion was a bit cheesy and over the top. I liked how this show brought people together in the show and was not only an adventure to gain Pokemon and battle each other. Ash met his two closest friends based on the fact that he went town to town to seek out Pokemon to become to greatest Pokemon master, but gained many lifelong friends who wanted to see him succeed.
The new game, which was released in July of this year, became an instant phenomena almost overnight...probably sooner than that. You get to adventure outside to find Pokemon, go to Gyms and battle. The fun aspect is that the more you level up, the more legendary and rare Pokemon you can find. I have gone out only a handful of times with friends, and I gotta say, that I am excited about this game more and more!
A great aspect of the game is that you actually have to move around to find Pokemon, so the more populous and/ or popular areas in your city or township, the more Pokemon you will find. However, despite how this game has reached so many people, there are always going to be people who are going to be negative. Just a few negative connotations made toward the game is that, "it's a waste of time," or " there is no point because Pokemon was a waste of time to begin with." It seems that there is an actual tension growing between people because of either their like or dislike for the game. I really enjoyed the Pokemon merchandise when I was younger, and I still reminisce fond memories of watching the show with friends. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I understand that people just do not like the show and never had an interest in it. But I will say that walking outside, getting some exercise, and meeting new people is the main perk of the game.
I have explored Canal Park, Leif Erickson and my local college campus even more, made long lasting memories with friends, and got some exercise all in one night. Just do not bash the game and call people "losers" or "lowlife" because they want to enjoy some semblance of their childhood in their spare time. People are different and why are we letting a game change that?
