Before coming to college, I was very against anyone wearing any kind of tennis shoes with jeans. I thought it looked weird and just bad. Then I got to college and realized I have to walk SO MUCH. This is even worse when you go to a school like the University of Virginia where there are hills and stairs EVERYWHERE. Don't get me wrong I love everything else about this place, but sometimes my legs just want some flat ground to walk on.
After this realization and seeing so many of my friends wearing jeans and tennis shoes I started thinking maybe it wasn't such a bad style. Then one weekend I went to Rockbridge Alum Springs for Work Crew Weekend, and since we were doing a lot all day I knew I had to wear tennis shoes, but we couldn't wear leggings so I had to wear jeans and tennis shoes.
Initially, I was like "these are the worst shoes to wear with jeans," "I look so weird." Then I realized absolutely no one cares and everyone else was wearing the same thing. We all knew tennis shoes were the best shoes to wear, and I have no regrets about making this stylistic change.
I recently bought a pair of New Balance tennis shoes with the thought that they would look good with jeans, and in my opinion, they look great! I have probably worn these shoes every day since I have gotten them and have been so comfortable because of wearing them.
Except when it decided to snow in the middle of March, then rain for a while. Potentially getting my new shoes messed up was just not worth all that, so I had to refrain from wearing them for a while.
This was a lot harder than you would think.
Tennis shoes are literally the best shoes ever created, and with the right pair they can fit so many needs. I have (kind of) ran in mine, played basketball, and worn for a casual day of classes. If you are like me and against jeans and tennis shoes, I HIGHLY recommend you get over that and make the change. It will change your life.
Honestly, it has become one of my favorite looks. Sometimes I know my tennis shoes do not match my outfit, but I just don't care enough anymore, and neither does anybody else to wear uncomfortable shoes but look good. I have also gotten lots of compliments on my shoes, so that has been a bonus.
With all of that being said, I urge you all to give jeans and tennis shoes a try, you may realize that as long as you are happy and comfortable, then that is all that matters.
